Senior Industrial Designer

Kingfisher is the holding company that owns B&Q and Screwfix in the UK and Castorama, Brico Depot and Koctas across Europe. The design Studio develops OEB products for these retailers.

My role involves the design and development of products for all categories and retailers within the Kingfisher Group. It also involves Strategy & Brand design and evolution to deliver consistency of design across brands.

Projects include ; Indoor Power & Hand tools,Garden Hand & Power tools, Bathroom and Kitchen taps and hydro products and Workwear.

mistrydesign is the company name under which I conduct freelance work. Initially set up in 2003 so that I could do freelance work in-between permanent work but became more formalised after leaving Seymourpowell in 2017 so that I could look after a handful of clients.I work with various companies helping to deliver products from sketch to production data.

Companies included Samsung (consumer electronic), Forpeople (consumer electronics & transport), Fitch (consumer products, retail & FMCG), The Brewery (FMCG), Wood & Wood Design (Environments), Powelli Industries (Kitchen Appliances) and MysteryVibe (Medical Devices).

My primary tool for 3d surface modelling, animation and visualisation

Photoshop

My main tool for images manipulation and creation.

Keyshot

Ive used many different visualisation tools in the past and currently Keyshot is my tool of choice

Illustrator

Main vector creation tool

used for creating elevations, textures & graphics

Solidworks

I have a basic knowledge of Solidworks and mainly use it in conjunction with Alias to solidify parts

InDesign

Perfect for creating printable presentations that can be converted to pdf for emailing

Generative AI

I have started playing with different Generative AI tools to see how they can assist in the design process, software includes : Vizcom, New Arc & Mid Journey

Premiere

After Effects

Both tools I have used for basic video compositing, After Effects has a better toolset allowing me to manipulate and add to animations and movies.

Interests

I enjoy being active and while I no longer participate in the ultra long distance events I did in the past, I still enjoy, swimming, cycling, running and weight training on a regular basis. I've also enjoy being outdoors ,scenic hikes and kayaking.

With the long distance training came a intertest in understanding nutrition, training and performance, this knowledge has been useful in the past when developing products for brands like Gatorade (sports nutrition & packaging) and Cloudtag (sports heart rate monitoring) and providing marathon training advice for friends and colleagues.
